Prints in the Seminary Library in Ljubljana

The paper presents some interesting graphic works housed in the Seminary Library in Ljubljana. Two of the founders of the library, the bishop Sigmund Herberstein (1644–1711) and the city chronicler Janez Gregor Dolničar (1655–1719), were also print collectors and had the sheets bound in albums. Herbestein's eleven volumes bear the shelf number y II 23–33 and are named Miscellanea Herbersteiniana and Dolničar's six volumes of Miscellanea Thalbergica are signed as S II 1–6. Most of the prints in either collection depict contemporary political, ecclesiastical, social or other interesting events, mostly in Austria but also elsewhere in Europe, there are also numerous portraits, coats-of-arms and emblems, while religious subject-matter is almost absent.
